Project overview
The Deep Sea Awaits
For the first time in Chinese history, three national-level museums — the National Natural Museum, the National Animal Museum, and the National Marine Museum — have joined forces to create a landmark deep sea science exhibition.
"Ocean Deep" is a national-level immersive science exhibition that transforms complex marine biology and deep-sea ecology into an accessible, emotionally resonant journey. The exhibition features nearly 100 rare deep-sea specimen exhibits, over 1,500 scientific illustrations, 4 projection theaters, and 8 distinct exhibition zones spanning from the photic zone to the hadal zone.
Visitors take on the role of "Deep Sea Research Interns" aboard China's Fendouzhe full-ocean-depth manned submersible, embarking on a mission codenamed "Hadal Dawn" — a vertical dive from the surface of the Mariana Trench to its deepest point.
The Descent: A Journey Through the Ocean Depths

Interactive experience
ARGO Sphere & The Deep Sea Explorer Passport
Each visitor receives an "ARGO Sphere" — an NFC-enabled interactive light orb that serves as a personal data terminal. Throughout the journey, they collect biological data, complete challenges, and upload their completed "Dive Log" to the A.R.G.O. central database at the end, earning the title of "Junior Deep Sea Explorer."
A "Deep Sea Explorer Passport" serves as both a map and a stamp collection book. Each page corresponds to an exhibition hall, with a vertical fold-out ocean stratification diagram showing the depth, name, and key creatures of each zone.
